There are many scrimp trawlers in this area and many looks the same and are wonderful design. They sail well.

Madagascar cargo ship. Our anchorage for the night where we badly dragged and had to leave in the middle of the night. There are so many great looking sailing boats in these countries. Many have no motor, except for oars when the wind is adverse. These trees are Barboo and only found in Madagascar. Interesting shapes. On this small beach live eight people and they are constructing a chambre d'aut. A very attractive private house for the lady that seems to be the chief of the bay.

I asked a chap for bananas, fish and langutins and he showed up a few hours later with this nice fish, which Harry cooked. I paid MA 10.000 (€ 2.60) an a bag of empty bottles.  MA 10.000 (€ 2.60) for these bananas.

Back in Hell-Ville.

Sailing back to Hell-Ville for some shopping.  Friends sailed with us. S/Y Refola.  S/Y Island Perl.  S/Y Anthem Anthem. More model ships. Perhaps for the grand kids? Bought two hand made table cloths for the saloon table. A bit naive design, but nicely stitched and must have taken them a huge amount of hours. One told me it is a months work, which I think is not over estimated. Paid MGA 60.000 (€ 16) for the two.

Apart from Hell-Ville and Crater Bay, all the small villages are poor and people miss the most basic things. They are generally friendly and many will sell or trade things, like fish, eggs, bananas, vegetables, “Langustes”, honey, etc.. The prices are generally low, but one has to bargain to get to the right price. For the bunch of bananas we paid € 2.60 for them all (see photos). Often I am asked if I have pants, shirts, medicine to give them, and generally I ask them to come with items we need and I will trade some t-shirts, medicine, etc.. Here in Mitsio, as well as many other places we have been to, they don’t have electricity, running water, sanitary facilities and furniture they sit or lay on the ground). The men are lookin
